Charges – Drug Supply – Galiwinku

Police

Officers from the Drug and Organised Crime Division have charged a 34-year-old female with drug supply following a lengthy investigation.

On 22 May the female was stopped on the Arnhem Highway returning from Galiwinku to Darwin where she and a 42-year-old male were found to be in possession of just over $32,000 in cash. The money was seized and the investigation continued.

Over the following months investigators obtained evidence to charge the female and she was arrested at an address in Karama yesterday.

Police allege nearly a kilogram of cannabis was supplied to the Galiwinku Community.

The female was charged with:

- Supply Schedule 2 Dangerous Drug - Commercial Quantity (Indigenous Community)

- Receive Property in the Commission of an Offence (Tainted Property)

She was refused bail and is due to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

The male was arrested by police on 5 December at an address in Stuart Park and has been remanded in custody until 19 December.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karen Sanderson said this investigation and arrest was assisted by valuable support and information from various agencies and members of the community, working together with police over a sustained period of time.
