Police

Northern Territory Police have charged a 19-year-old male following a vehicle pursuit in the early hours of this morning.

Around 3:30 am police received a report of a suspicious vehicle breaking into houses in Bayview. Upon police arrival, the vehicle is alleged to have driven from the area at speed.

The vehicle was located on Tiger Brennan Drive and police commenced a pursuit.

It is alleged the driver of the vehicle drove on the opposite side of the road and threw lit fireworks at pursuing police vehicles.

The vehicle then drove up an embankment near Ross Graham Bridge and came to a stop and the two occupants attempted to flee police on foot.

The male driver and his 15-year-old female passenger were arrested at the scene with the female being released from custody shortly after.

During the arrest, police allege the male resisted police and assaulted a police officer. The police officer received minor bruising and did not require medical treatment.

The male has been charged:

  • Possess thing to administer drug
  • Uninsured motor vehicle
  • Unregistered motor vehicle
  • Unsafe vehicle to drive
  • Fail to stop/obey direction
  • Recklessly endanger serious harm
  • Endanger occupants of vehicle
  • Drive at a dangerous speed
  • Drive disqualified
  • Assault police
  • Resist police
  • Drive manner dangerous during pursuit
  • False plates (plates calculated to deceive)

He is due to appear in Darwin Local Court this afternoon.
