Arrest for assault - Alice Springs

Two women have been charged with assault following an incident near the Stuart Highway on Saturday night.

It is alleged around 7:30pm two women were observed fighting by a number of motorists driving along the Stuart Highway near Tietkens Avenue.

A 57-year-old female motorists stopped and approached the women and attempted to intervene when one of the woman has turned on her and physically assaulted her with a stick.

Another passing motorist has witnessed the assault on the woman and stopped to assist. The 38-year-old female passenger managed to pull the teenager off the woman who fled to the shops nearby.

It is alleged the female passenger and teenager were wrestling on the ground when another woman, who was holding a baby, kicked the female passenger to the head.

At this time the male driver intervened and was allegedly assaulted by the woman holding the baby.

The 57-year-old woman returned and assisted in separating the women.

No one was seriously injured during the incident.

The 17-year-old was arrested but later released to be summons to appear before the Alice Springs Youth Justice Court at a later date.

The 26-year-old woman was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assaulted and Furnish a False name. Bail was opposed and she will appear at the Alice Springs Local Court today. The two-month old child was transferred into the custody of Territory Families.
