Aggravated assault - Southern Command

Northern Territory Police are investigating an incident in which a child was seriously injured overnight.

Around 6pm police responded to a report of an alleged aggravated assault involving an 11-year-old child in a remote community south west of Alice Springs.

On arrival they located the child with multiple injuries consistent with stab wounds. The child was taken to the clinic and then transported to the Alice Springs Hospital.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested and transported to Alice Springs.

Detectives travelled to the community and will continue their investigations this morning.

At this stage, initial inquiries indicate the incident was not domestic violence related and investigations are continuing.
