Aggravated Assault Alice Springs

Police have arrested and charged a 17-year-old youth in relation to an aggravated assault in Alice Springs on Tuesday night.

Around 11:30pm a man had driven into the Todd Mall to go to an ATM machine when he noticed a group of youth walking towards him.

The man returned to his vehicle when he was alleged approached by one of the youth who threatened him with a weapon, and struck the drivers side window twice.

The man drove off and alerted police.

Officers arrested the youth a short time later and he was transported to the Alice Springs Watchhouse where he has been charged with one count each of Assault a Person and Possess/Carry/Use Control Weapon. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Alice Springs Local Youth Justice Court today.

CCTV footage indicates the youth may have been involved in a similar separate incident where two people were threatened also in the Todd Mall later that night.
