Severe Weather – Darwin

Police

Residents and visitors to Darwin are reminded to take all necessary precautions as wet weather is set to continue across the Darwin Region.

Stream rises and water over roads are highly likely in present conditions.

NTES Northern Regional Manager Mark Cunnington said widespread heavy rainfalls are expected and there is a possibility of localised flooding. This includes the Greater Darwin area and water reserves of Rapid Creek and the Darwin and Blackmore Rivers.

Of particular concern is the time around the two high tides – about 7.45pm tonight and 7.30am tomorrow.

If you live in an area likely to be affected by flooding, now is the time to finalise your home plans and emergency kits and decide now where you can shelter with friends or family if required.

Listen to radio broadcasts and follow directions of local police and emergency authorities.

Stay away from flood waters and don’t drive into flooded roads or crossings.

For latest weather and road conditions follow Secure NT.

If you require assistance due to flooding or fallen trees, please contact the NT Emergency Service on 132 500.

Elsewhere, a minor flood warning continues for the Daly River and the Katherine River at Gorge Road. The township of Katherine is not under threat.

The Waterhouse River at Beswick peaked at 8.33m at 2.30am today. There has been no damage.

Access into Beswick and Barunga remains cut due to water over the Central Arnhem Road.
