Operation Concludes - Mataranka

Police

Mataranka police wrapped up a six-day operation yesterday following an influx of people into the town.

“We had many more people in town than usual - from Jilkminggan, Minyerri, Ngukurr and Numbulwar - and the vast majority were very well-behaved,” Remote Sergeant Thomas Chalk said.

“Unfortunately, we also had issues with some anti-social behaviour where our members were required to intervene to keep other people safe.”

From Tuesday 17 October to Sunday 22 October police:

  • Seized and destroyed 190 litres of alcohol
  • Arrested 10 drivers under the influence of alcohol (Readings ranged from 0.052 – 0.243)
  • Issued 25 infringement notices
  • Five vehicles defected
  • Recovered one stolen vehicle
  • Issued eight Banned Drinker Orders
  • Made one drug seizure
  • Made four other arrests

“The number of drivers who tested positive to alcohol is a concern. If you are under the influence of alcohol you are putting other road users, your passengers and yourself at risk. Enough’s enough,” Remote Sergeant Chalk said.
