Mataranka police wrapped up a six-day operation yesterday following an influx of people into the town.
“We had many more people in town than usual - from Jilkminggan, Minyerri, Ngukurr and Numbulwar - and the vast majority were very well-behaved,” Remote Sergeant Thomas Chalk said.
“Unfortunately, we also had issues with some anti-social behaviour where our members were required to intervene to keep other people safe.”
From Tuesday 17 October to Sunday 22 October police:
- Seized and destroyed 190 litres of alcohol
- Arrested 10 drivers under the influence of alcohol (Readings ranged from 0.052 – 0.243)
- Issued 25 infringement notices
- Five vehicles defected
- Recovered one stolen vehicle
- Issued eight Banned Drinker Orders
- Made one drug seizure
- Made four other arrests
“The number of drivers who tested positive to alcohol is a concern. If you are under the influence of alcohol you are putting other road users, your passengers and yourself at risk. Enough’s enough,” Remote Sergeant Chalk said.
