National Firearms Amnesty – Last Week To Hand In Your Firearms

Police

Next week is the last week to surrender unwanted, unregistered or illegal firearms, parts, silencers, ammunition, prohibited weapons or fireworks.

The National Firearms Amnesty is aimed at reducing the number of unregistered firearms or prohibited items in our community.

“You can hand in your unwanted items into any police station across the Territory, without the fear of penalty or questions,” Detective Acting Superintendent Brendan Lindner said.

“Territorians who are caught with an unregistered firearm after the amnesty risk prosecution that can lead to fines or imprisonment.

“So far 182 firearms have been handed in across the Territory and we encourage others to use this opportunity.

“The Northern Territory Police have also waived the registration fee for people wanting to legally register amnesty-related firearms.”

The National Firearms Amnesty ends on Saturday 30 September.
