Man Charged – Maintaining an Optical Surveillance Device – Darwin

Police

Northern Territory Police have charged a 54-year-old man for the offence of maintaining an optical surveillance device.

Constable Karol Jarentowski said police will allege the man had installed a hidden camera in the bathroom of his northern suburbs home for the intent of filming his female housemate without her knowledge.

“The device was later discovered by the housemate who alerted police.

“Following a warrant at the residence, police seized a number of electronic devices including cameras, computers and data storage devices.

“The use of hidden cameras, even in your own home, is illegal unless everyone is aware of, and consents to being filmed.”

The man will appear in Darwin Local Court today.
