A 30-year-old man has died overnight after an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) rolled on Letchford Road, Darwin River.
Detective Acting Superintendent Brendan Lindner said the crash occurred around 7:20pm.
“Exact circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing, however early indications suggest the driver failed to negotiate a washout in the road causing the buggy to roll.
“One male died at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle. The other male ran to a nearby residence where he was able to alert emergency services.
“It is believed that no seatbelts or helmets were worn at the time of the crash.
“The identity of the driver is yet to be confirmed. Detectives from Territory Major Crash Investigations continue to investigate the incident.”
This is the second death involving an ATV in the Darwin rural area in as many months. The Territory road toll now stands at 22, compared with 28 this time last year.
