Fatal Crash – Winnellie – Update 2

Police

Northern Territory Police from the Major Crime Squad are continuing the investigation into the death of a 46-year-old male cyclist on Winnellie Road on New Year’s Eve.

Police are requesting public assistance to locate a blue 2010 Toyota Aurion sedan, NT registered CB 31 FK, and the two occupants seen in the motor vehicle at the time of the crash.  The front bumper of the motor vehicle is likely to have damage.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Tony Henrys from the Major Crime Squad said police have added to the resources committed to solving this crime.

"There are two people out there who are aware they are responsible for this man’s unnecessary death. They need to hand themselves in before we find them.

“Police are also requesting a group of women who attempted to enter the Winnellie hotel shortly before the crash at 9.50 pm to come forward.

“Police believe they may have information to assist this investigation.

“We are also requesting any other person who witnessed the events or has information that will assist police in locating the motor vehicle or its occupants to please contact police on 131 444 or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

“The motor vehicle is registered to a Hire Car business.  I would like to focus people on the make/ model and front end damage.  It should be noted that registration plates are easy to change or just remove,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Henrys said.
