Fatal Crash – Darwin

Police

The Northern Territory road toll has risen to 20 following the death of a 32-year-old male in a crash at Gunn Point last night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner from Territory Major Crash Investigations said that the incident occurred on the beach at Gunn Point about 11:00pm.

“It is alleged that a buggy was racing at high speed along the beach when it rolled, causing the occupants to be thrown from the vehicle,” he said.

“The 32-year-old man suffered fatal injuries, the other occupant, a 25-year-old male, was airlifted to the Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“It is believed that alcohol was a factor in this crash and that the occupants were not wearing helmets.”

If anyone has any information regarding this incident please contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

In a separate incident this morning, two males were injured when a quad bike, travelling at high speed, collided with a parked vehicle at the Hidden Valley Race Track.  Both men were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.

The road toll at the same time last year was 21.
