Charges – Social Order Operation – Darwin Area

Police

Northern Territory Police have charged a 53-year-old man after he allegedly spat at police during a social order operation targeting public transport across Darwin.

Officers made seven further arrests, tipped out 134 litres of alcohol, issued 42 infringement notices, took six people into protective custody and ejected seven people from buses.

Nine police officers and three transit security officers were involved in the operation, held on Friday.

Metropolitan Social Order Engagement Unit Acting Senior Sergeant Bruce Payne said: “It was disappointing to see such a high level of antisocial behaviour”.

“We will continue to conduct joint operations with transit security aimed at curbing antisocial behaviour.

“The next person you sit next to on a bus could be a police officer.”

The 53-year-old man was remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
