Northern Territory Police have charged two men in relation to a string of fraudulent cheques allegedly cashed in Alice Springs.

A 34-year-old man allegedly entered a hotel on Strehlow Street on 9 December, where he stole master keys, cash and a blank cheque book. He then allegedly forged a number of blank cheques which were cashed out at various businesses over the following days.

He has been charged with:

• Unlawful entry (x2)
• Stealing (x2)
• Criminal deception (x4)
• Forgery (x6)
• Other fraud and drug offences.

A 31-year-old was charged with receiving stolen property and attempt to commit a crime after trying to cash a cheque at a financial institution.

Both men remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court this morning.

Business operators are advised that there may still be some false cheques in circulation, and to be cautious when being asked to cash cheques.
