Charges – Cannabis Seizure – Alice Springs

The NT Police Cross Border Team have charged a 49-year-old man after he was allegedly caught with nearly 10kg of cannabis.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Malley said police intercepted the man in his Holden Commodore ute as he drove in to Alice Springs from South Australia.

“Drug Detector Dog Jessie searched his vehicle, and found the cannabis secreted in various panels in the cabin. The man was then arrested,” he said.

Police believe the alleged offender was on his way to sell the cannabis in Darwin.

“Acting on information from the Cross Border Team, detectives from the Mount Barker CIB in South Australia also conducted a search warrant at the man's residence in Strathalbyn, SA. That search located a further two pounds of cannabis in a shed on the property.”

He was charged with possess and supply a commercial quantity of cannabis.

He was remanded to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court today.
