Northern Territory Police have charged two men with drug related offences following a cannabis seizure near Adelaide River.

Detective Sergeant Ian Kennon said a Landcruiser wagon was pulled over early this morning on the Stuart Highway.

“A total of eleven people were travelling in the vehicle, including seven unrestrained children.

“Following a search of the vehicle, police located a total of 173 grams of cannabis, a small quantity of kava, nine bottles of spirits and four litres of wine.   

“Police believe the drugs and alcohol were bound for remote communities.”

The 29-year-old driver was issued a notice to appear for:

  • Possess cannabis – trafficable quantity
  • Unlawful supply of cannabis to another
  • Drive unlicensed
  • Drive with child unrestrained

A 32-year-old passenger was issued a notice to appear for possession and supply of cannabis. Police will continue to target those who traffic drugs and alcohol into vulnerable remote communities.
