Charges – Assault Police – Alice Springs

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 15-year-old male for the assault of two police officers in Alice Springs yesterday.

Commander Michael White said that the incident occurred about 10:30pm.

“Police on segways were called to a disturbance on the corner of Schwarz Crescent and the Stuart Highway,” he said.

“On attending, the offender allegedly threw a rock at a police officer, hitting him on his helmet, and causing the helmet to crack.

“Police allege the youth then approached another officer and tackled her to the ground, causing injuries.”

He was charged with:

  • Recklessly endanger serious harm
  • Assault police
  • Hinder police
  • Damage property
  • Armed with offensive weapon (x2)
  • Disorderly in a public place

He was remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court today.

“Any assault on a police officer will not be tolerated. The officers in this instance were lucky they were wearing helmets as the injuries could have been life-threatening,” Commander White said.
