Call for witnesses - Wharf Precinct

Police

Serious Crime Squad detectives are seeking members of the public who assisted an elderly woman after an incident on Stokes Hill Wharf on Saturday, 11 March 2017 to come forward.

Detective Sergeant David Allan said the 73-year-old woman had just completed a sunset boat tour and was returning to her vehicle on the wharf around 8:00pm when she was pushed to the ground from behind.

“The offender tried to snatch her handbag before being challenged and fleeing the scene,” he said.

“Several people came to her aid and detectives would like to talk to these people to gain a description of the offender.

“Detectives are also requesting anyone in the area at the time who may have seen the incident or who saw anyone running from the area around that time to please contact them.

“The woman went back to her hotel but was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital by ambulance the next morning.

“She has suffered fractures and bruising during this cowardly assault and has only been able to report the incident to police today.

“Anyone who can assist in identifying this offender is urged to call the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
