Northern Territory Police are investigating a suspicious vehicle fire in Katherine in the early hours of this morning.

“Around 2:20am a man woke to find his white Holden Commodore on fire,” said Senior Constable Troy Rantanen.

“The victim and his neighbour managed to extinguish the fire using buckets of water. However the vehicle sustained interior damage.”

A number of tree branches were located within the vehicle.

Police are treating the fire as suspicious and are wanting to speak to anyone with any information.

“In particular, we would like to speak with anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Power Crescent area around 2:00am to come forward,” said Senior Constable Rantanen.
