Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses to an alleged assault in Alice Springs this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Allan Milner said a 27-year-old male was stabbed several times about 3:45am on the Stuart Highway near Schwarz Crescent.

He is in a serious but stable condition at Alice Springs Hospital.
