Three Youths Charged – Robbery in Company – Darwin CBD

Three male youths have been remanded in custody following stealing offences in the Darwin CBD.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said Police will allege the youths entered a shop in the Smith Street mall on Friday 4 March where one of the youths stole a staff member’s purse.

“When the youths were confronted they began knocking items off shelves and threatening other customers before leaving the store. It is alleged that one of the youths also assaulted one of the staff members.

“It is then alleged that the youths attended a clothing store at the Darwin Waterfront and stole a t-shirt, before being confronted by staff and fleeing.

“Police attended and after a lengthy foot pursuit, all three were apprehended.”

One male aged 14, was also questioned in relation to two unlawful uses of a motor vehicle, he was subsequently charged with:

  • Robbery in company
  • Stealing (x2)
  • Assault
  • Aggravated unlawful use of  a motor vehicle (x2)

The other two youths aged 14 and 15 were charged with robbery in company and stealing.

All three will appear in Darwin Youth Justice Court on Tuesday 19 April 2016.
