Ten Drink Drivers Nabbed on Territory Roads

Police

Northern Territory Police are disappointed to report that ten drink drivers were nabbed overnight, including a 38-year-old man who blew a high range reading of 0.216 BrAc when pulled over in Leanyer.

Sergeant Craig Dunlop said another concern was the arrest of a 30-year-old man who fell asleep behind the wheel whilst ordering food at a drive through restaurant in Ludmilla.

“Police attended and located the man asleep in the driver’s seat. He was woken up and subjected to a breath test where he returned a positive reading of 0.196 BrAc.”

Both drivers had their licences immediately disqualified and were charged with high range drink driving, they will both appear in Darwin Magistrates Court at later dates.

“This kind of behaviour shows a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of other road users,” Sergeant Dunlop said.

“Every year we see too many lives lost on our roads by reckless behaviour. The message is simple, if you’re planning on having a few drinks, don’t get behind the wheel. It’s time we put an end to this stupidity.”
