Police are investigating a rock throwing incident in Alice Springs overnight.

Superintendent Peter Gordon said Police were notified that an ambulance had been struck by a rock at 9:00pm.

“An unknown male has thrown a rock at the ambulance as it was departing the scene, smashing a window. 

“Paramedics had been transporting a female patient from the location at the time.

“Police are questioning the female patient and are obtaining CCTV footage to ascertain if the alleged offender is the same person responsible for the injuries to the woman.

“Throwing rocks at a moving vehicle is extremely dangerous and the consequences can be fatal.

“Offenders caught engaging in this illegal behaviour can face significant penalties, including up to four years in prison.

“Police urge the community to be vigilant and report all rock throwing incidents as they occur.

“Ambulance officers have a difficult job which is made much more difficult when they are subject to these types of attacks when responding to calls for assistance”

“Anyone who sees or believes there might be people involved in rock throwing should immediately call Police and notify them of the location.”
