Police Warn Against Lethal Drug

Police

Following a recent seizure, Northern Territory Police are warning of the dangers of the drug Furanylfentanyl.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said while Furanylfentanyl – which is classed as a synthetic opioid – is more commonly found in other countries, the discovery of the substance in Darwin for the first time has caused significant concern.

“Furanylfentanyl is extremely dangerous due to its potency. It is known to cause deaths,” he said.

“The lethal drug comes in powder or pill form and is often mixed into, or sold as heroin, often without the consumer’s knowledge.

“NT Police are currently investigating a small seizure of Furanylfentanyl in Darwin to determine its origin. We have significant concerns that there may be more of this substance in the community.”

If anyone has any information about the sale or supply or drugs in the Northern Territory, please contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. You can remain anonymous.
