OMCG Member Charged Assault with an Offensive Weapon Darwin

Police

Members from the Gangs Taskforce have charged a 44-year-old man following an alleged assault with an offensive weapon.

Detective Acting Superintendent Mark Stringer said the man, a fully patched Rebels OMCG member, was arrested yesterday afternoon.

“It is alleged the man was involved in an altercation with another road user on 15 September 2016, during which he rammed his Holden commodore sedan into the rear end of a motorcycle at the intersection of Roystonea avenue and Yarrawonga road.

“He then exited his vehicle armed with a pole and swung it multiple times at the motorcycle rider before returning to his vehicle and fleeing the area.

“It is believed both parties were unknown to each other, and the incident was a seemingly unprovoked attack on a member of the public.”

The 44-year-old was charged with:

  • Assault with an offensive weapon
  • Drive vehicle recklessly
  • Armed with an offensive weapon in a public place
  • Fail to report a crash
  • Disorderly behaviour in public place

He will appear in Darwin Local Court on 11 October 2016.
