Northern Territory man arrested on child exploitation charges

Police have charged a 61-year-old male for allegedly possessing and accessing child exploitation material.

The Northern Territory Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (JACET), comprised of Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Northern Territory Police officers, investigates offences relating to child exploitation.

Yesterday, a warrant was executed at the man’s Howard Springs residence, where numerous electronic devices, including a laptop were seized.

Upon a forensic examination of the laptop a number of child exploitation images were located. The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of child abuse material -  Section 25B Criminal Code (NT)
  • Use of a carriage service to access child pornography material-  Section 474.19 Criminal Code (Cth)

He will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.
