Multiple Offenders Charged – Operation Kindus – Tennant Creek

Tennant Creek Police have charged eight youths and one 18-year-old male with over 200 offences allegedly committed during a crime spree across Tennant Creek on January 3.

Detective Sergeant Kieron Weller said many of the charges were for property crimes.

“Police will allege about ten people – mostly male youths – unlawfully entered four neighbouring residences causing substantial damage to each.

“The offenders then moved to an industrial shed where they attempted to start a tractor, forklift, and three vehicles causing damage to each. They then allegedly broke into the shed where they performed numerous burn-outs on two motor scooters.”

Sergeant Weller said their actions inside the shed were captured on CCTV cameras.

“Upon the arrival of Police, the offenders fled in different directions. Two of the offenders were immediately apprehended, followed by another five shortly after.”

They were conveyed to the Tennant Creek Police Station, where they were charged with multiple offences of:

  • Aggravated unlawful entry
  • Stealing
  • Damage to property
  • Attempted unlawful use of motor vehicle
  • Trespass

An 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old male youth have been remanded in custody to appear at the Alice Springs Court on 8 January. The remaining youths have been released on bail to appear in the Tennant Creek Court on the 11January 2016.
