Detectives from the Southern Tactical Investigation Squad and the Cross Border Team arrested two men on Saturday 9 January for possessing a trafficable quantity of MDMA and methamphetamine (Ice).
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Leith Phillips said that Police acted on intelligence received from South Australia and apprehended a vehicle approximately 15km south of Alice Springs.
“As a result of an initial search of the vehicle, a trafficable quantity of what is believed to be ecstasy and approximately 15g of methamphetamine was located and seized.
“A search warrant was obtained and the vehicle was thoroughly searched.
“As a result Detectives located a further 18.8g of methamphetamine as well as a sawn-off double-barrel shotgun with a pistol-grip butt.
“In total 33.8g of methamphetamine, 2.3g of ecstasy tablets and 30 diazepam tablets were seized.
The men, aged 20 and 24, were charged with:
- Supplying a dangerous drug – trafficable quantity
- Possess methamphetamine – trafficable quantity
- Possess schedule 2 substance – trafficable quantity
- Possess a prohibited firearm
They have been remanded in custody and will appear in the Alice Springs Court today.
