Man Charged – Aggravated Assault – Alice Springs

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 28-year-old man who was allegedly involved in a sexual assault on his partner in Alice Springs on 1 February.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Dash said it is alleged the offender physically assaulted the woman, before dragging her to Wills Terrace where he attempted to sexually assault her.

“The woman managed to get away and the pair ended up on Parsons Street where the male continued his assault on the victim,” he said.

“On witnessing the assault, an off duty Police Officer and security guard intervened and rendered assistance to the female.

“The offender fled the area and was later arrested by Police on 4 February.

“The woman has suffered injuries to her face and body as a result of the incident.”

Police have charged the offender with:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Armed with an offensive weapon
  • Attempt sexual intercourse

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Alice Springs Court today.

“Domestic violence is abhorrent and will not be tolerated,” Detective Senior Sergeant Dash said.

“If it wasn’t for the quick thinking of the Police Officer and the security guard, the assault would have continued with the woman sustaining further injuries.”
