Man caught Drug Driving twice in 24 hours

A 45-year-old man will face Darwin Local Court after he was allegedly caught drug driving twice in 24 hours.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Kennon said the man was first pulled over in Katherine just after 5:00am yesterday.

“Upon a search of his white Holden Captiva, police located an ice pipe on the passenger seat. The driver provided a positive roadside drug test and was arrested for the purpose of a blood test. His license was also found to be expired.”

He was bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court charged with possess thing to administer drug, drive a motor vehicle whilst unlicensed and drive with prohibited drug in blood.

His was immediately served with a 24-hour license disqualification.

“Around 3:30am today the same man was pulled over driving a white Holden Barina on the Stuart Highway near Adelaide River,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Kennon.

“Again he provided a positive roadside drug test and was then arrested for the purpose of a blood test.”

He will appear in Darwin Local Court on 27 April 2016 further charged with:

  • Breach of bail
  • Drive a motor vehicle while disqualified
  • Possess thing to administer drug
  • Drive with prohibited drug in blood
  • Drive unregistered
  • Drive uninsured

“We are disappointed with this blatant disregard for the safety of other road users.  This is a timely reminder that coming into the holiday period, police will be out in force on the roads and will continue to target impaired drivers,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Kennon.
