Lock it or Lose It – Nhulunbuy

Police

Nhulunbuy Police are reminding residents to do their part in preventing property crime in the town.

Senior Sergeant John Worrall said it is important for residents to remember to lock vehicles and make sure homes and property are secure irrespective of whether they are home or not.

“There have been a number of reports of ‘fridgings’ and unlocked vehicles being searched.

“It only takes moments for opportunistic thieves to take advantage of an unlocked door and help themselves to your property.

“School holiday periods often see an increase in the number of these offences so it is important that people are vigilant, ensure their property is safe and report anything suspicious in a timely manner.

“If you are going away, let a neighbour or friend know and get them to check on your property, or organise a house sitter,” Senior Sergeant Worrall said.

Police urge anyone who sees anything suspicious to contact local police on 8987 1333, 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
