Illegal Hunters Targeted

Police

Northern Territory Police are warning shooters to respect private property and to observe the conditions of their permit during the goose and waterfowl season.

Acting Superintendent Tony Deutrom from the Palmerston and Rural Division said residents from the Anzac Parade and Middle Point areas have reported ongoing issues with illegal hunting and trespassing.

“Police will continue to work closely with the land owners, regulatory bodies including Parks & Wildlife NT and the Firearms Policy and Records Unit to regulate and manage the hunting season where these reports tend to become more frequent.

“We take these issues seriously and encourage people to report illegal activity,” Acting Superintendent Deutrom said.

Shooters with a permit can hunt waterfowl only during the 12-week season between October and December. Offences around discharging firearms or trespassing on private property can result in hefty fines and custodial sentences, permits and shooters licences can also be revoked.

“You can report illegal or unsafe activity to the police assistance line on 131 444, call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or in an emergency or life-threatening situation you should call 000.”
