Alice Springs Detectives have charged a 26-year-old man who was in possession of a stolen firearm yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Leith Phillips said members from the Southern Tactical Investigation Squad stopped a vehicle in a lane behind Lindsay Avenue, Alice Springs.

“The car was searched and the rifle was located,” he said.

“The rifle was one of three reported stolen during an unlawful entry on Smith Street in June 2015.  They have now all been recovered.”

He was charged with:

• Unlawfully possess property
• Possess firearm while unlicensed

He was bailed to appear in Alice Springs Court on 12 February 2016.
