A 44-year-old female has died and 45-year-old male was seriously injured in a single vehicle rollover near the community of Finke on Saturday evening (27 August).
Superintendent Janelle Tonkin said Major Crash and Southern Traffic investigators from Alice Springs attended the scene on Sunday 28 August.
“Two vehicles were travelling together, returning to Finke from Kulgera, when the lead vehicle left the road and rolled several times. They were 16 kilometres from their destination.
“Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle during the rollover.
“Investigations are continuing but early indications suggest speed, alcohol and the lack of seat belts may be contributing factors,” Superintendent Tonkin said.
The male remains in Alice Springs Hospital.
The road toll is now 28, compared with 33 for the same time last year.
(The 45-year-old man would eventually succumb to injuries on September 3, taking the road toll to 29.)
