A 42-year-old male pedestrian has died after he was struck by a vehicle on the Stuart Highway at Coolalinga overnight.

Inbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours while Major Crash Detectives investigated.

The 27-year-old male driver is not expected to be charged.

The road toll now stands at 27, compared with 33 at the same time last year.
