Police

Northern Territory Police arrested three men yesterday in an operation involving the Cross Border Team and Southern Drug Investigations Unit.

Detective Sergeant Andy Bedwell said the operation was initiated in December 2015, targeting the sale and supply of cannabis in Alice Springs and the surrounding Aboriginal communities.

“Police executed a search warrant on a residence in Alice Springs yesterday and located about 990 grams of cannabis,” he said.

“Additional warrants were executed on two other residences and in total about 656 grams of cannabis was seized.

“Overall about 1.6 kilograms of cannabis was seized and three men, aged 59, 35 and 26, were arrested and charged with supplying and possessing cannabis.”

All three men are due to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court today.

The estimated street value of the seized cannabis, if sold in Aboriginal communities is $164,800.
