Northern Territory Police have charged a 41-year-old man after seizing a commercial quantity of cannabis and an unlicensed firearm in Alice Springs yesterday.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Leith Phillips said Southern Drug Investigations and Cross Border Police searched a property on 27 June as a result of information received.
“During the search, Police seized 611 grams of cannabis, more than $7000 in cash, and a .45 calibre Magnum rifle,” he said.
“It is believed the drugs were headed to remote communities in the Cross Border jurisdiction and would have a potential street value of $60,000 if sold in remote localities.”
The man was charged with:
- Possess cannabis - commercial quantity
- Supply dangerous drug
- Receive property derived from sale of drugs
- Possess firearm whilst unlicensed
- Fail to safely store firearm
He was remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court today.
