Northern Territory Police have charged a 34-year-old man after seizing a commercial quantity of cannabis plants being grown in a hydroponic set-up in Alice Springs yesterday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Leith Phillips said the Cross Border Team and Southern Drug Investigations searched a property on 28 June and located the plants under cultivation.

“During the search, Police seized 28 cannabis plants in various stages of maturity, more than 100 grams of cannabis and an array of hydroponic growing equipment,” he said.

“Police will allege that this offender has been supplying cannabis to people living in Alice Springs and the cross border region.”

The man was charged with:

  • Cultivate commercial quantity of cannabis
  • Possess trafficable quantity cannabis
  • Receive property commission of an offence
  • Unlawfully supply cannabis to another
  • Possess cannabis – traffickable quantity
  • Administer dangerous drug to self

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Alice Springs Local Court today.
