Charges – Car Theft – Darwin

A 40-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly stole a ute from a roadside on Monday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland from Strike Force Trident said the two-door ute was stolen from Woods St, Darwin City while the driver was temporarily out of the car at about 10.15am.

“The offender then drove off erratically, before colliding with two vehicles on Vanderlin Drive,” he said.

“The offender continued to the Palmerston area, before heading back towards Darwin City via Tiger Brennan Drive, where he crashed into two Police vehicles.

“He has continued driving, this time back towards Karama. The man fled on foot into bushland near the Shoal Bay waste Transfer facility, and was located by members from Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit, with the help of Police Dog Costa.”

He has been charged with:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
  • Drive manner dangerous during pursuit
  • Recklessly endangering serious harm
  • Dangerous driving (x3)
  • Not stop after crash (x3)
  • Fail to obey direction of a Police Officer
  • Damage to property (x4)

He will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.
