Charges – Armed Robbery – Karama

Northern Territory Police have charged a 26-year-old man in relation to an armed robbery at the Karama Shopping Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland from Strike Force Trident said the man entered a supermarket in the shopping centre and stole a can of deodorant and soap.

“When he was approached and challenged by staff, the man lifted his shirt and produced an axe,” he said.

“He then walked through the shopping centre, hitting an ATM with the axe and yelling at members of the public.”

Police attended and were able to remove the axe and arrest him.

A search also found a small quantity of cannabis.

He has been charged with:

  • Aggravated Robbery
  • Damage to Property
  • Armed with an Offensive Weapon
  • Possess Cannabis – Public Place

He was remanded in custody to appear on April 20.
