Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses to a structure fire in Katherine on Wednesday.

Senior Constable Brendan McLinden of the Northern Investigations Section said fire crews were called to an unoccupied Territory Housing complex on the corner of Power Crescent and River Bank Drive just after 1pm.

“A search of the unit was conducted, and property belonging to a man known to squat in the unit was found, albeit heavily water damaged,” he said.

“Items located by police at the scene are being tested for accelerants, and the fire is being treated as suspicious.”

Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area on Wednesday, or have information related to the fire are urged to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
