Detectives from the Major Crime Squad are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 39-year-old male in Nhulunbuy.

Detective Superintendent Travis Wurst said the male was found deceased on the town beach in Nhulunbuy, around 5.00pm yesterday. 

“In situations such as these it can be difficult to establish exactly what happened, but at this stage Police are treating it as suspicious,” Detective Superintendent Wurst said.

"It is crucial that anyone with information about the circumstances surrounding the man's death contact Police.

Anyone who can assist in this investigation, including those who may have been in the town beach area yesterday afternoon, or who may have heard or seen something out of the ordinary is urged to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
