Call for information – Armed Robberies – Darwin

Police

Northern Territory Police are calling for information in relation to a number of armed robberies overnight.

Detective Acting Superintendent Chris Board said the first incident occurred around 11:30pm in Nightcliff.

“A stolen grey Toyota Hilux has approached a taxi on Lantana Court. Three male occupants wearing bandana type disguises have exited the vehicle and allegedly threatened the driver with a firearm before stealing a small sum of cash.

“The second incident occurred just after midnight, a taxi parked on Rocklands Drive Tiwi was approached by the same Hilux. Two males have exited the vehicle and threatened the driver with a firearm before again fleeing with a small sum of cash.

“Shortly after, police received a report of an attempted robbery on Gregory Street in Parap. A taxi driver said he was approached by a male armed with what he believed was a pistol. On this occasion the driver quickly left the scene to avoid confrontation.

“The Hilux has since been recovered after being abandoned in Malak. Police believe the offenders may now be using a stolen white Toyota Land Cruiser Wagon, NT Registration: 791395.

“At this time police are taking statements from victims and witnesses to establish the exact circumstances surrounding each incident and the identity of the alleged offenders,” Detective Acting Superintendent Board said.

Police urge members of the public to not approach the Land Cruiser or its occupants. Any sightings or information should be reported by calling the police assistance line on 131 444 or by contacting Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
