Arson Charges – Yuendumu

Northern Territory Police and Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) crews attended a house fire in Yuendumu on 6 January.

Senior Constable Nicholas George said that shortly after 2.00pm Police were alerted to a fire at North Camp by a community member.

“Yuendumu Police contacted the CDRC, who deployed a crew who arrived to find the property partially alight.

“The fire was contained to the lounge room and was quickly extinguished.

“There was extensive smoke and heat damage to the rest of the house but thankfully, no one was home at the time.”

A 36-year-old male was charged with arson.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in the Alice Springs Court today.
