Detectives from the Serious Crime Squad have charged a 33-year-old man with arson following an incident in Nathan Court, Gunn on Tuesday 17 May.

Detective Senior Constable Maree Scott said Police will allege the man had attempted to set fire to the house earlier before returning in the early hours of the morning and setting fire to electrical equipment at the side of the residence.

“Police responding to the report of a fire have arrested the male on suspicion of arson and have also charged him with high range drink-driving following a roadside breath test.

“Fire and Rescue Investigators confirmed accelerants were used to start the fire after two earlier attempts failed,” Detective Senior Constable Scott said.

The man was charged with arson, attempted arson and high range drink driving.  He will appear in the Darwin Local Court today.
