Arrest - Sexual Assault – Darwin CBD

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 41-year-old male following an alleged sexual assault on a woman in Darwin CBD on Wednesday night.

Senior Sergeant Scott Manley from the Sex Crimes Unit said a male had been identified through information at the scene, and via CCTV captured in the area around the time of the alleged offence.

“The male was subsequently located and arrested in Palmerston this afternoon and remains in Police custody while further enquiries are conducted,” he said.

“It is expected that charges will be laid later this evening.”

Police continue to investigate a sexual assault that occurred in Casuarina on Wednesday night and urge anyone with information to come forward.

“It is alleged that as a woman was walking through the car park area between Trower Road and Scaturchio Street she was approached from behind by a male and dragged to the ground before he sexually assaulted her,” Detective Manley said.

“The male is described as being of Indigenous in appearance, in his early 20’s, of medium height and slim build. He was wearing a light coloured shirt, dark shorts and a dark baseball cap.”

Anyone with any information should contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
