Youths Charged – Escape from lawful detention

Two male youths both aged 16 years have been charged following their escape from Don Dale Youth Detention Centre on Sunday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Matt Akers said the youths were also charged with a number of traffic and criminal damage offences that occurred on Tuesday.

They have been jointly charged with:

Criminal damage – over $50,000

Engage in violent conduct

Escape from lawful detention

Stealing x 3

Damage to property

Endanger occupants of vehicles

Drive vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public

Various traffic offences

One will appear in Darwin Youth Justice Court today, the other will appear on Tuesday 9 June.
