Youths Charged – Crime Spree – Darwin and Katherine

Police

Nine youths have been arrested and charged after a crime spree between Darwin and Katherine last week.

Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer from Strike Force Trident said the youths – aged between 13 and 17 – were arrested on Thursday.

“Police believe several of the youths were involved in the theft of two cars from Katherine, before driving to Darwin in the early hours of last Wednesday morning.”

“Once they arrived in Darwin, all nine youths were then involved in a crime spree, including breaking in to several houses and stealing two more cars.

“After extensive investigations, all nine were arrested.”

Senior Sergeant Stringer said a group of the youths led police on a brief chase, before fleeing into bushland where they were arrested.

Three of the youths received diversion, five were remanded to appear in Darwin Youth Justice Court today while the last was bailed to appear on December 4.

“Youth driving around in stolen cars is a dangerous situation where there is the potential for serious injury or fatalities. This is another great result for Trident apprehending these young offenders.”
