Youths Charge – Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle

Strike Force Trident Detectives have charged three male youths following a traffic apprehension in Karama

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said five youths were sighted traveling in a stolen motor vehicle down Union Terrace, Wulagi, just before 1:00am yesterday.

“They were followed into the Karama area before they exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. A short foot chase commenced before members arrested four of the youths.  Enquires are continuing to locate the fifth offender.

A 15-year-old will appear in Youth Justice Court today charged with:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • Drive motor vehicle whilst unlicensed
  • Drive unregistered motor vehicle
  • Fail to comply with red traffic light (x3)
  • Fail to obey Police direction
  • Drive in dangerous manner

A 13-year-old will appear in Youth Justice Court on 2 June charged with:

  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • Stealing

A 12-year-old received youth diversion.

Further, a 13-year-old was questioned in relation to numerous property offences in the Darwin area. He was charged with:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle (X4)
  • Aggravated unlawful entry (x3)
  • Drive motor vehicle whilst unlicensed (x5)
  • Stealing (x4)
  • Trespass (x4)
  • Attempt to commit crime
  • Fail to obey Police direction
  • Damage to property

He will appear in Youth Justice Court on 2 June.
