Youths Arrested – Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle – Darwin

Strike Force Trident have arrested four youths following the alleged theft and aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said in the early hours of Friday 28 August, Police responded to reports of a stolen motor vehicle from a residence in Leanyer.

“At approximately 8:30pm last night, members sighted the vehicle travelling along Stokes Hill Road.

“Members pulled over the vehicle before four youths attempted to jump out and flee the scene, however all were apprehended.

Three youths, aged between 12 and 15 were charged with:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • Stealing

A 12-year-old male was also charged with driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed and a 14-year-old female was charged with breach of bail.

A fourth youth received youth diversion.

They will appear in Darwin’s Youth Justice Court on 1 September 2015.

“This was some good work by NT Police to resolve this incident in a safe and timely manner.  The potential danger to the public, and to the youths, is very concerning,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer.
